3 Tips for Writing

It's considered mandatory for every student to learn how to write a decent essay. After all, essays are common academic requirements for any student, regardless if they're in middle school, high school, or college. Thus, that's the reason why we often learn essay writing early in our lives—so that we'll still have enough time to develop our skills as essay writers, seeing as we'll be expected to write and submit  essays for the rest of our academic lives. But if you're unsure of how you can write a good essay, then perhaps you should try following these tips:

  1. Know the different parts of an essay. An essay is made up of three basic parts...and each part has a particular function. The introduction, for instance, serves as the first part the readers will read. Thus, it should contain the thesis statement. The body comes next, which is often composed of at least two paragraphs containing the writer's insights, feelings and opinions regarding the essay topic. The conclusion aims to provide closure and a concise summary of what the entire essay is all about. You'll find it easier to write an essay if you know what to write and how to write it.
  1. Write about what you know. This doesn't mean that you'll never attempt to write an essay about something that remains unfamiliar to you. It just means that you, as a responsible writer, should know better than to begin the writing process without making sure that you actually know your topic. Do some research and study your topic if you have to.
  1. Be direct and simple. The aim of writing an essay is to share what you think or how you feel about the particular essay topic with your readers. Thus, you need to make sure that you can express yourself as sincere and as effective as possible. However, this step might become difficult if you insist on using big words and flowery statements. Always remember: it's better to be direct and simple. If you need an entire paragraph filled with fillers, flowery statements and big words to express something that can be summarized in a simple statement, then you're “doin it wrong”.
